About MyTenantRights.ca

Making Tenant Rights Accessible to Every Canadian

Our Mission

MyTenantRights.ca was created by a Canadian professional who experienced firsthand the challenges tenants face when trying to understand and exercise their legal rights. After navigating landlord disputes, repairs issues, and the Landlord and Tenant Board process, it became clear that many tenants lack access to clear, practical information about their protections under Canadian law.

Our mission is to make tenant rights accessible, understandable, and actionable for every Canadian renter. We believe knowledge is power, and when tenants understand their rights, they can protect themselves, document issues effectively, and navigate the system with confidence.

Why We Built This

The Gap in Resources

Tenant rights information is scattered across government websites, legal jargon is dense and unclear, and many tenants don't know where to start. Legal aid clinics are overwhelmed, and not everyone has access to a lawyer or paralegal.

The LTB Backlog

The Landlord and Tenant Board is backlogged, hearings can take months, and tenants often navigate the process without legal representation. Better-informed tenants can prepare stronger applications and represent themselves effectively.

Vulnerable Communities

Immigrant communities, newcomers to Canada, students, low-income tenants, and those with language barriers are often unaware of their rights. Landlords may exploit this lack of knowledge. We built this resource to level the playing field.
